Your First Visit to Go Osteo

What to expect when you visit
Go Osteo

The following information has been developed to give you an insight into the process involved when seeing an osteopath at Go Osteo. If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to contact us – at Go Osteo we are here to help.

1. Pre-Consultation

Prior to your consultation, you will be sent a 'confirmation of booking' notification via email/text. This includes a 'check-in' page where we ask you to complete some questions relating to your medical history and current health - this information is confidential and for use by the osteopath only. We request this as it allows the osteopath to be fully prepared and saves it being completed during your initial consultation.  We ask you that you arrive on time where a member of staff will greet you and check you in. You will then be asked to enter a changing room where you can dress down to wherever you feel comfortable (we suggest shorts & t-shirt/sports bra) and wait for the osteopath to call you and take you into the consultation room. There is a lock on the changing room door but we encourage you to take any valuable belongings into the consultation room with you.

2. Consultation - Case & Medical History

Osteopaths are healthcare professionals who are specifically trained in diagnosing physical health issues.  At the start of your first appointment, your osteopath may ask you some questions about your medical history and lifestyle, and will discuss the symptoms you may be experiencing. We ask about your medical history as a matter of course as it may be pertinent to your current presentation, and it also enables your osteopath to treat as safely and effectively as possible. Your osteopath will likely ask numerous questions relating to your current issue to make sure they provide an accurate and informed diagnosis.

3. Consultation - Examination

During the examination, your osteopath will administer a physical assessment specific to your issue. This may include observing your posture, assessing your movement, palpating relevant joints and musculature, performing orthopaedic testing, measuring your strength and flexibility, among other testing. When indicated by your case history, your osteopath may also perform medical tests such as blood pressure, listening to breathing, palpation of various organs, and overall assessment of systems.

4. Consultation - Diagnosis

Osteopaths are qualified and extensively trained to provide a medical diagnosis for your physical health issue. In addition, they are also trained to recognise if and when a condition requires referral to another form of medical care, such as General Practitioner or in very few cases hospital. We will sometimes refer for scans/imaging to inform our diagnosis. At Go Osteo, we also work closely in collaboration with other forms of healthcare professionals to make sure we provide the most ethical, safe and effective care to every patient.

5. Consultation & Treatment

At GO Osteo treatment is uniquely tailored to your needs. Usually it involves hands on techniques such as massaging muscles and moving joints. We utilise carefully selected massage, mobilisation, manipulation and soft tissue techniques to address your issue. Our osteopaths may also utilise our state of the art facilities to perform specially tailored exercises. Throughout the treatment, your osteopath will explain to you what treatment is being done and how it will help you. Please do not hesitate to say if you are uncomfortable with any treatment and our osteopaths will adapt treatment - you are al We ask you that you arrive on time where a member of staff will greet you and check you in. 6. Post-consultation - After Your Treatment

After you consultation, the osteopath will show you to your changing room. Once changed, you can exit through reception, however, you are most welcome to sit for a while in the waiting room.
